So this is on a 2003 Suburban with bose and xm radio. I want to add a usb port for playing mp3 files off a thumb drive. I know you can buy the iReady setup but Im not needing all that other crap and the price that follows it. I know there is a mod where you can connect a 3.5mm jack into the xm module behind glove box. Now what Im wondering is can I then connect a 3.5mm to usb adapter from there and use my thumb drive? Only question I have is will the module/radio read the thumb drive and play the music or no? Im thinking the 3.5mm jack mod works because the phone plugged into it would act as a processor and the jack is just a gateway for playing the music thru the speakers. Maybe Im wrong I dont know. Thats why Im asking here. Hey BEN where you at!

If that doesnt work Ill just get an XM subscription....lol.

There are other options out there to keep from splicing wires. The xm module splice is a good way to add in a aux/headphone jack but it comes at compromising the wire loom and possible inducing of static or whrring noise through speakers like a bad ground. There are Bluetooth devices that have usb plug in that convert to fm signal and can play through radio station pretty clear non the less to mention saw one in a customers vehicle it goes in the 12v cigarette lighter outlet and volia you have a usb supplied media player for your thumb drive no cut or spliced wires just a simple nice clean install hope this helps

the 3.5mm jack is an analog audio input. you want to read data from a usb drive and play audio files from that. it's a bit more complicated than just adapters. to use a thumb drive full of files requires something that can decode the files and turn them into the audio stream that will come out of the radio, so you'll need to shell out the $$ for that iReady box.

I have that same exact one for my VW... i hate it

Yep its a pile. Its ok for using your phone music (Youtube) thru it but I imagine there is better out there. Dont use phone calls thru it so not sure there. Playing usb thru it sucks. But whatever. For the price its ok I suppose.

Guess I will be doing a stereo in here after all someday. I cant go without a thumb drive. Drives me nuts. I even put Xm on there other day and its just like the radio..... same shyt over and over. At least with the usb its the same shyt over and over that I like...lol.

Oh well this is cleared up now. Thanks!
