How much things have changed since the dark days of the late 1970's.
The WEAKEST 2012 gas car engine Chevy is making is 138HP using the new, more pessimistic SAE formula. That's for the small 4-bangers, which is more than most (all?) the GM V8's in 1978.
Some of the engines are 11.7:1 compression on regular unleaded?
These is about the same HP per liter than many of the hot-rod motorcycles of the 70's, like the KZ900 (Z1), which was about 80 "old formula" HP out of 903cc, and 9.5:1 on premium gas, and it's an emissions car engine.
