AFAIK, this 4 speed auto (3+OD) is intended for LS engine racing, with a rating of 685ftlb. This is rated as high as early Allisons, right?
4L85E? Comes with options for manual control of the transmission, so you'd run a Manual engine ECM tune, ditch the Allison TCM and program your shift points in.

Would it work for a light dragster? Price is right at <$3000 with no core.

4L85E transmission behind a Duramax van with heat treated gear train. I used this trans when I built the black Grand National trans for David. This is what Josh is using in the Dumpster.

Here's all I know so far about the Auto:

• Improved valve body for firmer shifts

• Direct bolt-on for Gen I Small-Block and all Big-Blocks (Huh? GM recommends this for the LS9, 638HP ZR1 Corvette engines)

• Does not include torque converter. See pages 184-185 for options.

• Includes additional clutch plates

• Gear ratios: 1st: 2.48, 2nd: 1.48, 3rd: 1.00, 4th: 0.75

• Add up to 685 lbs/ft. torque

NOTE: Use with electronic controller P/N 19212657 for carbureted and Ram Jet applications. Use with electronic controller P/N 19302410 with Chevrolet Performance LS fuel injected applications. Torque converter not included. See automatic transmission torque converter match listing chart on previous page.

So it COULD be just normal 4L85E, but is shows up in the GM Performance Parts Catalog, so it might be "race prepped"

This is like reading a Christmas Catalog ...

I can't believe this PN: 12480030

It's the real C5R engine block that won Lemans. "Good for over 900hp"

SHIT Howdy. :D

So perhaps it was just in the GMPP catalog because it's useful for high HP builds, not that it's a GMPP.

Does the converter lock on the 4L85E? The computer and programmer kit don't say, neither does the suggested TC for it.

All 4Lxx transmissions have lockup converters...
