I'm working on my mother's 01 Silhouette - The cooling system was being pressurized by combustion gasses, confirmed with a block test kit - and in the teardown and cleanup, I pulled the lifter retainers to clean under them and clean the retainers - the problem is I'm not sure what to torque them down to. I've found references that appear to call them 'Anti-Rotation guides', and the only thing Mitchell lists for torque specs is 'Valve Lifter Guide Bolt' (89 in/lb). I'm ASSUMING that this refers to the retainer (which also will prevent the lifters from rotating). Can anyone confirm for sure?

That is correct.

Thanks.

While I"m asking...... GM lists the rocker arm bolts as TTY bolts (14 ft/lb + 30 deg). No one that I've found lists rocker arm bolts in the replacement parts, and the last engine I did a HG on (Dodge 3.8L v6) didn't list the rocker arm bolts as TTY. WHY does GM decide to specify TTY bolts for ROCKER ARMS? Since no one appears to have replacement bolts, would the 14 ft/lb be safe?

I just tightened the rocker arm bolts with a 3/8 ratchet until there snug. I've seen guys reef on them and the bolts broke not long after running running.

Another Torque question - Does anyone know what the torque specs are for the air injection components? specifically (and possibly most importantly) the 'adapters' that screw into the heads? Unless I'm missing something, Mitchell doesn't list any specs for them at all - it's almost as if the entire system doesn't exist (according to Mitchell).

I hope you're joking. I've never put a torque wrench on a spark plug. It's almost impossible to use a torque wrench for spark plugs on some vehicles.

No, not really. I pretty much always torque spark plugs unless there's no possible way to do so, especially on Aluminum heads, and ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY on Fords.
