Iv noticed now its getting colder out, I should be seeing my glowplug light on a little longer. I have no glowplug codes or a p0670 code. Checked with tech2 to verify. Its been 40 the past 2 days I looked at the tune its set to be on for 10sec at that temp. If you aren't looking for the light, you won't see it. Still starts fine for now. But it gets around 0*F in the winter here. Can the glowplug controller still be bad with no code? I also checked maxi fuse its good.

The glow plugs are quick heating with a solid state controller. Doesn't matter how cold it is, they heat up in the same amount of time. The light even on cold mornings should only be on for 2-3 seconds.

You will have codes if there is a problem.

That's true for lbz and lly, the newer might be the same for the newer ones too, although there might not always be a code. I did 4 glow plugs on an lbz and it had no codes but the 4 I changed I bench tested and they were definitely dead.

Now lb7 is a whole different ball game. No codes for GP and my light is always 5-7 seconds at least. But i think the lly-newer GP controllers are a little better

The light may not set but the code will be there if you scan it. Solid state controller gives feedback and will notice when 1 or more glow plugs is inoperable. Lb7 does not have a solid state controller like 04.5+ trucks do and the OP does not have lb7 which is why I didn't mention anything about lb7. 04.5+ trucks monitor and operate each plug individually unlike a federal emissions lb7 in which all you have is a buss bar per bank so if you have a dead glow plug you will only get a general left bank/right bank code rather than a specific code like you would on lly+.

Lb7 also runs at 12 volts, lly+ is 4.7 volt for the glow plug system.

Yeah I knew there was a considerable difference. I meant to say there won't always be a light but yes there should always be a code stored on lly+

There's not even a left/right bank code on federal LB7's. The only thing monitored is the output of the glow plug and intake heater relay circuit.
