not sure where to post this so im sure it will get moved.

bought this motor and was told it was a LLY, after looking at some of the parts it came with it looks to be different thinking maybe LBZ, today i was taking a head off and pulled the glow plugs and they read LLY so im gonna go with that its an LLY but just wanted to make sure.

figure this can be my stupid question for the month:D

Did it have injectors in it? if they are in there and have a step on the body they are LBZ, if they are smooth (no step) they are LLY.

Are the threads on the glow plug up high on the body close to the hex end or are they more in the middle?

On the harmonic balancer:

There is a lump for counterbalancing weight. If the lump is about a 1/4 of a circle, it's LB7/LLY. If it's about 1/2 a circle, it's LBZ (including 2006 "fake" LLY) or LMM.

If your glowplugs said LLY, it's a "true" LLY as far as I've seen.
