I've wondered how you guys that have made it into magazines and what not did it? I've had a few people tell me I should try and get my BURB in one since it's a little bit of a rarity, and a pretty fun ride.

The best way I could tell you is to go to some national events...Scheids, TS, NADM events, etc. Go where the photographers are, enter show-n-shine or compete and get your truck out there.

Now this is just how I've seen it done...my truck is FAR from magazine worthy :D

I wish more "ordinary" people would get a chance. I hate bling-bling trucks that dont run worth a crap.

Even though I really cant stand magazines, Darius and I were thinking of contacting a magazine and ask if they'd like to do a "two-fer" on our trucks, but we really dont know where to start, and dont want to spend money on "nice" pictures if the mags arent interested. Just set it up as two ordinary guys who live ~90 miles apart, who own ordinary stock-turbo trucks that go fast at the track.

Sadly, with a few exceptions, I am feeling the same way. It used to be 8-Lug was for the bling and Diesel Power was for the real world, fast, or awesome sled pulling trucks. Now you see trucks on the cover with custom paint and 20s running 13s on parts that should have them in the low 12s/high 11s. Seems they are starting to care more about show and shine than they are about the title of their magazine, what happened to the voice of the diesel enthusiast? Not the paint, stereo and rim enthusiast - that's what Truckin' magazine is for.

On another note I agree that going to the big national events will help get noticed if you have a truck that stands out based on it's times vs. mods. Living out West where you can drive the truck to them or catch them at more of the smaller events helps too.

Normally I find out where the magazine editor lives, then put a horse's head in their bed when they are asleep.

So far, it's worked out very well.:thumb:

I don't think I could pull that one off, I'm not in the gerbil club. I was talking to Nick a little while back(unit453) and he mentioned that I should try to. I know he got his truck in one and he remarked that mine should be in one as it is such a one off job. I've had a few people ask me as well if I was with the company out west building them up. I know mine aint the purtiest, but she is one of a kind and a real world truck like many readers could actually build.

Write up a data sheet on your truck with pictures. Mail it to mag editors. Show up to diesel events and seek out the press.

Not sure if that would work, but it sounds like a good plan.

We are lucky and live in an area where many mags have their HQ's. And lots of diesel shops who advertise in mags know me. We have had two articles on our trucks, and Kat even got a cover. But they actually called us out-of-the-blue, since we were local, and they needed content.

Hiting the events that they cover is about the best way , secound is having something that catches there eye . Its is sad but Pure performance wont cut it , it has to look the part also . My buddy Matt Moon found that out the hard way , back in 2007 he had a built motor , and all the fixxins , 1st place in points and was moping up in all the comps , ran into a mag at the track , they commented how impressive his truck was running and told him " its too bad it isnt better looing or else we would take a few pics " he put some bling on the same truck and 2 years later he has been in several and even got a cover shot/ main feature . like it or not that is the way it works .

Ill take a truck that performs over one that looks pretty every time. Bling sucks. Period.

He didn't have a built motor yet but did have a GT42 on it. He and I were both running stock wheels at the track. After that day i never ran stock wheels again, don't wanna have my chance for "stardom" blown just cause of the wheels.:D

I'd have to agree with everyone, you just gotta be at events and have some aftermarket wheels. I'm pretty sure thats how i got into Diesel Power Challenge. I was running at the NHRDA event in Phoenix and ran into Jason Sands. Matt Moon talked my truck up to him and i was in.

It wasn't at the time of my posting. I still won't be looking up to Richerd Gere as an idol though.

:spit:

I would enjoy reading about your swap in a mag, im tired also of all the Bling bling, I think i heard Backstreet boys playing last time i opened up a diesel mag.:D

My goal for next year is to get into one of the magazines just a little picture of course since there is nothing special about my truck. I plan on hitting up a few of out of state events.
