Gauges and radio keep cutting out while driving

I have an 05 lly dmax with 70k miles on it. It has recently been killing batteries like no other (only the one on the drivers side)
The problem I'm having is every bump I hit the gauges dash and radio all go out and reset like I just turned the truck on.

There is a main engine ground that goes from the back of the block to just below the hood on the firewall. It recently was rubbed all the way thru and was severed. I've fixed the cable but it rubs on the same metal bracket that severed it in the first place.

Could the whole engine be shorting thru the cable? And this is what's killing the battery and making everything reset.

You probably need to locate all other grounds and check them. If the main ground wore through and was no longer making the connection that means the massive load from the starter and all other electrical accessories went through all of the smaller grounds and may have overloaded and melted some of those. Just a guess, I'm sure others will chime in as well

The ground cable that was severed was awhile ago and it was only apart for a few min till I figured out what it was and the problem just started with the dash. Its been at least 4 to 6 months since that happened. I'll look thru all the wiring today and see if I can find anything.

I gotcha. My 02 did something similar with the gauges and it ended up being my interior fuse panel. Replaced that and all was well

Yeah. I paid like $30 for it from a local junk yard. I know for the older trucks (99-02) they'll interchange between 1/2 and 3/4 tons. As long as they are similarly optioned. The donor panel can have more options than your truck but not less. My 02 lb7 was an ls with pw and pl but no power seats. The donor I took the panel from was a 00 1/2 ton lt with power everything. Worked perfect. And no more crazy gauges

That's weird. I just oulled every fuse I could find that had anything to do with the dash as well as checked grounds and plugs. Drove around the block, hit some bumps and bounced it a lil on purpose and no more problem.

I'll see if it was just a fluke or if its really fixed.

Yeah mine was shorted or had an internal breakage somewhere. If I messed with the panel and fuses enough my gauges would work. After replacing it they worked great and still do far as I know

Well after a few hours of internet searching the common causes seem to be bad batteries, ignition goin out, or the cluster itself is failing. I'm gonna start checking everything tm and see what I can find out.
