Anyone ever heard of these or used them? They sound interesting, and from a name like Gates, I can't imagine they are total junk, but at the same time, I have some trouble trusting a 'shrink wrap' hose clamp over a metal one...

My buddy uses them alot at his hotrod shop. They make for a very clean install. Problem is you have to be able to get the heat gun in all the way around and heat evenly. If you notice a leak, heat it some more.

Kind of like propex fittings. And those are the best way to secure pex pipe. Stronger than an oetiker clamp.

Sooo... What if you can't get it heated right 100% around it? Will the 200ish degree coolant temp finish the job? One time use isn't that big a deal considering they don't cost a fortune, but maybe I'm just old school, but I question how it can hold better than a metal hose clamp.

The instruction hint at yes, but my buddy says no. He takes vehicles for a hard drive, then shuts them off so it'll heat sink and build as much pressure as possible. Then breaks out a heat gun and heats any leaks. When at full operating temp it's pretty easy to get the temp high enough to seal.
