your gasser buddies will need dyno time if they want to see any real noticable hp gains and get all they can from it. they dont tune nearly as easy as our diesels

Any pointers on gas tuning?
Getting ready to sell the 99 van in my sig and was thinking I should put a race tune on it so when someone test drives it they'll be all :woott:

I've looked into it, and the biggest thing is you will need a wide band O2 sensor to do gasser tuning. A wide band can measure the air fuel ratio at any RPM or engine load unlike a regular O2 sensor, so you just about have to have one to do tuning as just about any change requires tweaking the mixture. And GM is famous for setting the WOT stoich to about 10:1-11.5:1 which is really rich, but safe for the engine. Setting it to go to about 13:1-13.5:1 at WOT will liven one right up a good bit, but takes your safety window out of the stock tuning almost completely. A dyno is really useful as more timing isn't always better. Many times the engine will fall off a cliff in output before it will timing rattle, so a dyno allows you to see real world what your changes are doing. You can go in and set the timing tables to the high octane ones and use a wide band O2 and set it at 13:1 at WOT and call it good. If you have a 6.0L though, they can be waked up a good bit by using the tune from a 1500SS truck and putting that one in as it is 345HP VS the HD's 300HP tune.

x2 but the issue i ran into right away was trying to keep from setting the knock sensor off and retarding timing. it takes alot of time tuning and logging and trying different things to get it. i never really got the hhr down but i got it to do pretty good. couldnt get the sensor to stop retarding after 6000rpm though no matter how i scaled the timing
