Gale Banks reacts to Hoonigan 1000hp build

I was going to comment about this in depth, but its not worth it, nobody who wasn't there and or involved in the whole process does not know anything at all, except what a geriatric old man assumed happened, and he has no clue of what actually went on that day.

So given that about 10% of the actual story is even known, and 90% of the episode footage ended up on the cutting room floor, it is what it is.

I know the story because I tuned it, I have the actual data logs and I was part of just the tuning, but none of that matters really...............opinion have been formed, experts have weighed in.

I was asked to do what I could with what I had to work with, simple as that, lots of people can arm chair quarterback the process on Monday Morning, the "should of done this, should have had that"...........comments are always welcome, LOL.

As someone who has now spent 15 years in this industry, and being one of the original BETA Testers from 2005, it is sad where the industry is at this time, IMHO..........but when $$$$$$ gets involved then it becomes a shit show.

I am not going to comment negatively about Hoonigan or anyone's opinion other than Banks, he is a salesman, that is what he does, is he is knowledgeable, is his data logger a fine product as well.....yeah, I think probably so.......but other than that, he should take up golf for a hobby.

Ain't that the truth? I just made a comment about this recently. I remember going to diesel events in the 2006-2012ish time frame, and it was all just so much fun. The events at Outer Banks Speedway that Buck and Jess put on, the original Rudy's dyno days at his old shop, the old DPC events in Bowling Green, etc. Those events were just so much fun, and though I remember them like they happened yesterday, they feel like they happened ages ago compared to the current events I go to. Everything in the industry has become so commercialized and so monetized (and so hostile, a la the events referenced in this thread), it's really just not that fun anymore.

They were "DYNOMITE DIESEL" Injectors, there was not much to go off of, and it was more or less put on a blindfold, spin me around 5 times and shove me in a direction, LOL.

Nothing I have not done 100's of times over the past 15 years.

I bet it would go faster if they put a Bank' Diff Cover in it..............:roflmao:

Since Banks is such a Fan and has so much input, They should get one of his stickers and stick it on something in the next video....:roflmao:

It Would be great if they let there Crackhead Ace Mechanic do an impression of Banks and his critique on one of Banks videos.

I think age enters into this. Banks reminds me of Joe Biden.

God I love this statement. Sometime in a different thread I'll tell you guys what the Banks team tried to get me to do when I was running the top 50 list and their sidewinder truck and rail where on the top. They are a real piece of work. I always smile when I see some old geezer with his diesel truck he tows his travel trailer or 5th wheel with proudly showing his Banks power sticker on the side of his fender.

After watching this and pretty much out of the diesel scene anymore except for my 2007 classic tow rig I use to tow my race trailer, I kind of wondering why they put out the video in the first place it all seems a bit premature give what they are trying to accomplish.

Everyone who has messed with these diesels have a steep learning curve in the beginning. I totally agree with Josh's statement that they should have gotten a knowledgeable project manager from the get go and it would have saved a lot of time. If however they are working on a tight budget and are relying on donated parts that's a whole different story.

When I watch Banks out on his little show it reminds me of all the diesel prima donnas that have come and gone one that comes to mind is Steve Cole, whatever happened to him?

His name actually just came up on CompD the other day... said he's in NC now. Still dabbling and tuning a little. Evidently not much but is doing some.

He was real close to Buck Sprill, who lived in North Carolina, he tuned Bucks Dmax and they would go to the Daytona 500 every year.

He wouldn't have anything to do with EFI live so was pretty much stuck with the LB-7. I remember you had to wait months for one of his ECM's and it cost a fortune. I spent better part of a week with him way back when I had my first LB-7 the gray crew cab. It got pretty ratty toward the end and I was never able to get it into the 11's. Got close, 12.0 but started smoking white at idle and slowing down.

That's when I decided to build a dedicated race truck and bought Max'd Out from a farmer in Missouri. That was many many thousands of dollars ago. The engine out of my gray truck was going to be the block for the first race engine in Max'd Out but when we got it apart the cylinder walls were so heat scored we decide to junk the block and found a couple others, from Cole actually.
I use to do that hill climb in Western Montana where you hooked onto a 10K trailer and see how fast you could pull it up a 6.5% grade for from a dead stop for one mile. EGT's would bury a 2000 degree gauge, who knows how high they actually went.
The second year I showed back up with the first set of compound turbos ever on a LB-7. They decided not to run the mile as the word got out to the Montana State police so we just did a zero to 60 event. John Kennedy beat me by a second or so but he used nitrous and did it in the cool of the evening before I got there to run in the heat of the day. That plus I believe the guy timing it didn't hit the stop button quick enough as I was yelling at him my MPH Gps was already past 60 mph before he stopped it. That was a long time ago.

sorry didn't mean to high jack this thread.

Buck and Jess gave a lot to this community, I think their track in Cashwell is still open. I'll have to have a look see when I go up to Manteo to fish next week. Buck was a cool guy I hung out with him and Jess way back in the day at thier OBX outlaw races. That was the first time I met Rudy as well. The good ole days...

Just came across this video on Facebook. Didn’t bother watching the video but I was wondering what people thought of it so I read the some of the comments. Unfortunately people were just eating it up and loving it. Didn’t really care for banks before and now really don’t after all of that.

Soooo has anyone seen High Performance Academy’s video with gale about are deletes a waste of time on YouTube yet? Currently watching it and within the first two minutes in between blowing his own horn I’m nearly certain he’s had a lot to do with the EPA cracking down and our good friends getting their livelihoods ruined... as far as the video, he’s admitting emissions equipment robs power and economy but his devices are the best possible thing for these trucks either way.

Why does someone in his position go out of his way to post such Bias out of context video review?
It completes a full picture of a individual person and company who feel the need to call out others in such a way.
He has lost a lot of respect and credibility in a well educated industry.

He should stick a idash up his a#$e and provide some true information, funny how someone who wants all the data/facts
can let such a one sided, ego driven review be created.
