Guys im starting to get alot more into this racing stuff my question is after tranny rods, pistion, cam, turbo, And dual fullers when does the rear end come in. Can the chevy stock rear end hold the power for 10's possibly 9's. I just wanna no when i should start worrying about it. Also who makes a good rear end. Or whos parts are yall running?

Thanks Kurt

The stock GM unit won't hold that for long I don't think. At least it hasn't for some (bmdmax and I think even Pat has changed his).

They usually put a Dodge unit in place of the GM unit. Its apparently strong. Another option is a spool. I believe Eric Merchant has one available and apparently some others (Kleikkel or who ever he is over on DP that has the Dodge pulling truck and runs his mouth all the time. to Tony and Ric) are developing one in conjunction with bigger axles.

I thought Pat still was running stock rear.
All I know is if you have the money to run
10's or 9's, you can afford a spool! LOL

The only difference in the Dodge AAM 11.50 and the GM AAM 11.50 rear end is the axle tube size... The Dodge version does not ahve the Necked axle tubes... other than Small Dimensioning it is IDENTICAL, the Dodge unit wouldn't be any stronger!!!!

I would think the only major issues to consider would be the longevity of the Differential itself as the Ring-gear itself ( Pinion Included ) and the chance of spinnign the tubes in the centersection with the traction bars and torque being put down!!!!

The only option to consider would be a larger Dana/Spicer Axle and the gearing and wieght would be mostly a downside.

I would guess in a 2wd app that you [if you can get enuff traction] will break it easier than us 4x4 guys because it is seeing 100% of the torque.

IMHO It would have to be a "perfect storm" to break one. BIG power, BIG tire and HOOK IT ALL up. As well we have low stall converters that don't bang.

The trans or the tires will break loose before the rear end does. In the past i ran BBC's in front of 10 bolts and never broke... until i hooked a few times. I never hooked on the street!

Break it then fix it, if it breaks.

its the innards of the center section (the limit slip stuff) that is stronger in the Dodge than in the GM and people do upgrade to the Dodge parts when they break the GM stuff. BMDMAX did an how-to over on TDP on it I believe. It seems like RyanU is or was running the Dodge unit and I'm sure there are several others. Its not entirely uncommon. Yes, its pretty much exclusive to the big HP trucks using their HP.
