Question: G80 bit the dust....

Guess my rear diff couldn't take the abuse anymore. Did a nice burnout and rear end wouldn't unlock. Took cover off and found the piece that engages the locker sheared into pieces. Grinded it out so I can drive for now. Gotta find a new rear diff. Anyone try the Detroit Truetrac? I need some advice on a good aftermarket locker. It would be for the 10.5" 14 bolt correct? What price range would I be looking at?

some guys are running the dodge limited slip unit
I don't think there is anything else available

oh yea 11.5" sry that's right. every auto parts had the 10.5" listed for the 2500hd's when i needed a rear diff gasket. had to get one for the 3500. weird.

local shop here just installed a truetrac for $1400. OUCH

there is nothing wrong with the AAM 11.5 i would just replace that one with another one

I see this as a good option. It took the aftermarket a very long time to come out with anything. I think if it was that bad of a unit, they would have been all over it sooner.

Very true also. If it fails, that's a good excuse to upgrade. Burnouts are a good way to wipe out any traction unit though. A spool would be the best but you know they suck really bad on the street and towing.

they are in 500-1200hp trucks and holding up... you should be able to replace your current diff with another AAM 11.5 for a fraction of the price of a Tru Trac

I will be running this locker and the 4340 38 spline axle as soon as Randys Ring and Pionion ships it out to me.

If money is an issue, simply repair your g-80. Those are common parts to fail in this design on all sizes.

I am running the Dodge Torsen unit AKA True trac , I love it and it was pretty resonably priced at about 600-650 bucks . I have a thread on here in the DIY that covers the install too !

i broke my stocker on a 2wd launch in a 14 second lifted truck.

similar to you mine got stuck locked but it wasn't engage thingy it was actually some spider gears that broke and kind of seized itself together. driving a full spool gets old fast

anyways i put in a trutrac and love it. absolutely amazing its like a whole different truck but then again my stock one had a mind of its own. check out the drifts

Nice drifts redboytie (especially the end). I broke that little thing in my stock locker myself. I now have the Yukon Gear and it works fine.
