Just an FYI.

Started noticing a funny smell in my truck about 6 months ago..Turns out my emergency brake cable grommet has been leaking water for some time. The grommet was still in place, but if you sprayed it with a water hose, water would pour in. If you remove the driver side fender skirt you'll see where it goes in. Everyone might want to check there's..

New carpet and pad was $300, not to bad.. The stuff to kill all the rust was $150 for a quart..

Oh crap  I had all my seats out the other day to put in a new stereo system and we were trying to figure out why the carpet was wet under the back seats, I think I'll be taking them back out and looking under the carpet now. Thanks for the heads up.:)

I bet just about all of them do it. This gets in there b/c when it rains,or you give it a bath, this is where the water runs down from the windshield and just soaks the grommet. I fixed mine by removing the inner fender skirt and sealing the entire exterior grommet with silocone. I also did the one above it that we all run our other add on wires through;) I had water coming in that one too.

My back carpet on the driver side was soaked also, It runs down the wire harness track, then gets absorbed. You can see how bad mine were rusted in the pics.. Even rotted the nuts off..

No prob everyone. Was just something i never would have imagined. Everyone should pull back the driverside carpet and just take a sniff for mildew..It's alot easier than putting in new floor-pans..I was very close to that and still prob will have too in the future.. Rust sucks and is nearly impossible to kill..

The new carpet and pad is nice though:cool2: Shoes off Bitches!!!:D

The parking brake cable runs from the pedal to the middle of the floor board between the drivers feet, or up under the dash behind the parking brake pedal. One or the other, then goes through a rubber grommet to get out of the cab. It's leaking around that grommet I believe he's saying.

The water coming off of the tires while driving in the rain is being pushed right into the grommet if it's on the front of the cab though. Thats my thought.:)

Mike hes saying its draining in from the windhsield wiper area/cowl, and flowing down the firewall. That grommet is about where you would rest your left foot while driving, to the left of the brake pedal.

Exactly. Pull the inner fender liner loose by the cab and you will see exactly what it is. Then spray water down the cowling and watch it run all over that grommet. If you wanna see it really leak, pull the trim piece off by the hood latch and snatch the carpet back along with that black liner piece and you will clearly see the grommet. Now have someone spray all around that grommet with the hose..

Here's a pic of the location. And a couple more i found. Sorry don't know how to point make little pointers:confused:

View attachment 1489 You can see the round grommet in this one.

I have water in my cab quite frequently after some rain. Im my case I am assuming it is the absence of the water deflector! between the inner door skin and the door trim panel.
You might want to check yours, especially if you have a custom stereo installation.
