#12-05-25-001A: Service Stabilitrak DIC Message and Telltale Illuminated While Performing Donuts with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS) Off - (Feb 15, 2013)
Subject: Service Stabilitrak DIC Message and Telltale Illuminated While Performing “Donuts” with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS) Off

Models: 2012-2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Attention: Performing stunt driving maneuvers should never be attempted on public roadways, may cause a loss of vehicle control, be dangerous to the vehicle occupants, pedestrians or those in the near vicinity. General Motors does not support this type of driving, and considers it abusive to the vehicle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2013 and 2014 model years. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 12-05-25-001 (Section 05 – Brakes).

Service Stabilitrak DIC Message and Telltale Illuminated
Performing a stunt driving maneuver commonly referred to as a “donut” with ESC and TCS OFF may cause a Service Stabilitrak DIC Message and tell-tale lamp to illuminate for the duration of the event.

Please note the following:

•When the vehicle is returned to a safe driving posture, the DIC message and tell-tale lamp will go out.
•In conjunction with the I/P alerts going off, the ESC and TCS systems will automatically revert to “ON.”
Note: Once turned off, the traction control and electronic stability control will not intervene with the drivers actions during the stunt maneuver, however the TCS and ESC systems will have to be turned off again by the driver if the action is to be repeated.

No attempt should be made, nor is there any possible correction for this condition. The vehicle is operating as intended.
GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

I can't wait till I get one in the shop for this complaint. Step #1: Duplicate customers concern :D

That's what I was thinking.

Customer: My DIC message and light come on when I'm doing donuts.

Tech: We'll take it out and see what happens when we do donuts.

Pat has a great story about an F-body he use to have, and a test drive with a service writer who wanted him to show him what the issue was, Think of the Jeff Gordon video only a little tamer and not a set-up!

1998-2002 F-Bodies have clutches that can overheat the hyd fluid when racing.

When this happens, the pedal sticks to the floor, but the clutch is engaged (no clutch).

I took it to the dealer under warranty, explaining the issue.

When I came back that evening, they said the car was good to go, but the paperwork said "Could Not Replicate Problem."

So I brought it back, saying 'yes it IS bad', you're just not driving it hard. So the service manager got into the passenger seat, and I drove off the lot calmly. When I got to a clear stretch of road, I slowed to 10 mph in first, turned off TC, then nailed it and rowed the gears. The service manager was telling me to slow down, but I hadn't stuck the clutch yet. Finally on 3-4 shift it stuck to the floor.

"Don't YOU EVER drive like that with me in the car again!!!!" *****.

So I left the car there with the pedal stuck, and went to pick it up after work.

"Did you fix it?"

"No."

I read the paperwork, and I shit you not, typed on the form was:

"Customer Drives Vehicle Outside It's Design Parameters."

Huh? What, like driving it on the moon or underwater?

Took it to another dealer and they replaced the clutch with the newer P/N's that are beefier.
