fueloil furnace questions/trouble shooting

cannt get the furnace to light.. uncle left the heat turned up while i was gone and ran the tank dry..

motor runs, fuel is primed motor it wired in parallel with ignitor and controled by this http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ww...ch&Ntt=4e291&N=0&GlobalSearch=true&sst=subset

i have check the flame sensor and have ~100ohm acrossed it when off. with the furnace on there is 40-50 mV across the poles.
the sensor is relatively cheap.. but i dont know what is good or bad..

anyone got any info that could help... grainger is closed till monday

is the igniter working? is it spraying fuel correctly? does it light for a minute and then shut itself off? I've never messed with a fuel oil burner so im just guessing here....

Replace Filter and nozzle. Is it a Beckett burner? I service so many of these in the winter for same reason. A little bit of dirt gets in tip and ruins spray pattern and it will not fire.

Like vrabel said, if I were showing up on a job that the tank were run dry, the first two things I would do is replace the nozzle and filter. If you still had issues I would check the "igniter pack" on top of the burner. Hope you get it working.

i will pull the burner out clean the tip etc... fuel filter? it has soem serious pressure when i bleed it after puting 40gl in the tank..
any way to electrically check the flame sensor?

bleeding was the 1st thing i did after putting fuel in the tank :thumb:

for shits and giggles i bleed it again... after 15 second solid stream a bunch of air came out. continued bleeding till i got a solid strem for 15-20 seconds.. furnace gets hot now :thumb:
