I have a quick question for y'all because I am officially lost and wanted to know if anyone else has any answers or same situation as me... Long story short I have the truck below. A month ago I filled up my fuel tank, reset my trip, and got 350 miles from full to empty out of my tank of fuel. When I get down under my truck and look at the fuel tank it says directly on it that it is a 26 gallon fuel tank. Doing the math that only comes out to around 13-14mpg on my 3rd economy tune which did not seem right at all compared to my other dmaxs. I then decided I needed to run my tank down to the almost empty and fuel light come on, (yes I know not good), and then fill it up as much as possible to see how many gallons of fuel I can pump into my tank. I did this, this morning and I was only able to get 18.6 gallons of fuel into my tank and that is seeing fuel in my fuel neck and not just when the handle cut off. My question is, is my fuel gauge wrong or is there a random 7 gallon spot in my fuel tank so I can only get 18 gallons of fuel into my tank? Wanting to know this so I can get a better MPG number since I do not have the fancy DIC. Any comments or answers would be greatly appreciated. THANKS! :D

Mines a 26 gallon i believe also. I think all short box trucks have that size stock. Anyway ive ran till my light came on a few times, and most ive put in is 20.8 gal. Most the time i fill up at 1/4 tho. Mileage should be checked on fuel consumed tho at fill up. If u ran only 18.6 gallons in thats roughly just at 18.81mpg.

Most I've ever put in mine is 21, my dads put 22 once. And we are both really bad about being to lazy to stop for fuel. So we end up driving on the low fuel light longer than we should. I think they factor in a lot more reserve than most vehicles. Probably for the clueless people who think if you run it out its just a matter of putting more diesel back in and firing it up. Leaving that extra 4 or 5 gallons instead 2 or 3 gives a little bit of a safety net. This is just speculation though, I may be way off

Awesome! Sounds normal then and makes complete since leaving that much extra for reserve so you don't take as great of a chance getting air in the lines and what not! Looks like I am good to go! Thanks guys :thumb:

If you have an iPhone there's an app called mileage keeper that is free and really easy to use. It saves your previous fill ups and mileage calculations so you can compare your fuel mileage from tank to tank, and also accounts for partial fill ups if you do so. I use it at every fill up

Mines been on since last night, I probably won't fill it up till tmrw afternoon :D. I just haven't been by the station I like yet. I'm probably going on 30+ miles since light came on. I'll be surprised if I get 22 gallons in it
