I have a 2008 gmc it has an air dog II lift pump which has failed my question is is there a
Pump in the fuel tank or else where? I primed the system using the button on the fuel filter and the truck will crank now where as before it would not start. This is my first duramax and im curious of how the system is supposed to be set up.

No. The CP3 (the injection pump in the valley) has a little gear pump on it that pulls fuel from the tank.

Going to try to send the AD in to be replaced?

Im def going to give them a call and see what they can do w it, hoping at least they will have a rebuild kit or new pump instead of having to spend 6 bills on a new set up. Is it safe to drive w out the lift pump being operational? Im guessing it lost its prime when the motor went into a protect mode and then wouldnt start? I appreciate the info thank you

Truck should still run. The airdog 2 is a flow through pump.

....only under moderate throttle. It will stumble under heavy throttle.

St. Louis, hopefully you (or previous owner?) sent in the warranty card.

Warranty is only good for the original purchaser, but you may get lucky.

Play dumb or you'll probably be left buying a new one.

Not true, I have a switch on mine & I forgot to turn it on at a pull last summer
Truck ran fine but clean as hell

Guess we're different. Forgot to turn mine on a couple times at the track after modding a tune, and she would stumble badly after 2-3 shift. Had to let out, then get back into it slowly. Always nice to run a 17 when you're expecting a 12. :roflmao:

My pump is def bad anything past half throttle after the 2 - 3 shift it will fall on its face and or shut off completely after which i have to prime the fuel pump via the button on top of the fuel filter to get it to crank again. On a good note i talked to air dog today and they are sending me a new pump free of charge apparently two years ago they had problems w the motors failing which are manufactured by someone else. They have a new manufacturer and have resolved the issue. Top notch tech support and they stood behind there product - dont see that much these days any more

Dang, they really took all the complaints about their refusal to honor their warranty to heart. Glad to hear they are honoring it for you.
