I'm 100% positive my fpr is my culprit on my LB7 I'm having a surge every so often almost a subtle lope and then it stops logged it and when it surges rail press dances simple as that no other symptoms. My truck has 250k on it and I'm pretty certain it has the original cp3 still in as the dealer I bought it used from had injectors done under gm warranty. I know it's going to need a new fpr regardless but I'm undecided on what to do. I'm wanting to do a LBZ reg but I'm curious if its worth doing I know it'll have to be retuned or should I just go back with the LB7 reg? My future plans are to swap out the LB7 pump to a LBZ pump and then have twin LBZ pumps so what should I do I'm really leaning towards the LBZ reg for now as budget will allow but I'm open to suggestions thanks in advance.

Man if it were me I'd go ahead & install the LBZ CP3 now. Why pay $300 for just the regulator when the new CP3 comes with a new regulator? LBZ CP3 is also quite a bit cheaper than the LB7. At 250k miles your pump is probably tired anyway.

Well I'm kinda on a budget I can get the LBZ reg for 179 or the lb7 for 193 only difference is ill have to tune for reg my pump is still quite healthy still holds 21-22 rail pressure no problem

I understand. I just always try to upgrade when I need to repair something. Almost like every breakdown is time to buy something more than I really need lol

Why don't you add some 2 stroke oil and not have to worry about it.Could do some other fuel treatment also like standine or any of the many others.Your fpr is sticking and it mimics a lope or surge.

If ur gonna put in a lbz pump eventually u could do the lbz for now and retune now. Then when the time comes to play no tune needed and u have a spare for for the shelf since between ur 2 trucks it sound like it would be nice 2 have.

I pre mix the same additive with 2 stroke oil works great

I bought a used LBZ regulator for my truck while I was overseas and when I came back, it didn't work. I probably just got hozed for $150 but it may just need some cleaning (as I read before they can stick and be cleaned w/ 2cyl oil) but if you would like to have it, its yours if you cover shipping. If by some reason it works, it would be nice to get $50 or so back as I was out $150 and a LOT of troubleshooting as I had a full engine build to come back home too.

I appreciate the opinions guys. Thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass thank you though. I think the LBZ reg will be the way to go gonna call dmaxtuner and see what it'll cost for rescaling the reg. again thanks guys.

Ok so I did some digging around today and talked to Paul at duramax tuner and talk about what my plans are and found out its better to stick with the lb7 reg due to the LBZ reg being some what of a problem to tune out he didn't say it was a problem to tune but that it really isn't worth doing on a lb7 cp3 due to no gain. He said the lb7 reg works better with the intended pump and so on for the LBZ reg so my best bet is to swap in a new lb7 reg for now and start saving for a LBZ cp3 swap later and then twin LBZ pumps thanks again to all who have posted your help is/was greatly appreciated

We have new LB7 regulators for $186 and a whole new CP3 for $700. The pumps are normally good for 150K miles so you are way past the normal life span on yours. That is probably due to your regular use of additives. Your best bet would be to go with a new strocker CP3 but they get pricey!

WI Huck I use power supply additives every fill up which is every Saturday or Monday if I miss stopping by my filling station I've been filling up at the same station for the past 7 years IMHO they have diesel unlike any other I've run and I've tried a lot of different stations diesel. My dad says its a mental thing with me that diesel is diesel but I know there is something different about theirs imparticular. Stroker pumps are really not the way I want to go I'd much rather run two stock LBZ cp3s than one or two stroker pumps but that's jmho. Thanks for your suggestion though.
