Fuel level sending unit...

Anyone had to replace theirs lately?
Looks like it should be GM P# 89060634. It 's less than 1/2 the cost of a new sending unit. So Hopefully I can get just the level sensor with out buying the entire sending unit...
Ran out of fuel on saturday but the gauge still said I had 1/4 of a tank...
Cluster has been replaced so I don't think it's the gauge it self.

personally I would buy a whole new sending unit... they are fairly inexpensive. We were forced to do this a few years ago because mine was covered with think rust.

I wouldn't concider $300+ inexpensive...but it would let me do the pick-up plumbing at my leasure before I drop the tank...thanks for the idea.

Before you replace try logging it with EFI Live scan tool. The fuel level gage in my cluster died but I can see the level in my logs. Scanning is an easy way to insure it is not just a bad stepper motor in the cluster.

The sensor is very easy to change so I would do it before buying a whole fuel bucket.

Check your resistance to see if it matches the gauge reading.
please verify, but I think it reads 40-250 ohms empty to full.

Finally had a chance to check it out with EFILive.
26 gal tank
189 miles on the trip odometer 100 of that was towing the TT.
The needle reads that I have about 2/3's of a tank of fuel.
EFILive;
GM.FUELLVL---63.1%
GM.FLS--------1.9V

I'll ckeck it again tomorrow a couple of times then fill the tank and see what I get.
