Fuel gauge problems

So this may have been asked before but i could not find it. My fuel gauge a while ago started acting up and going all over the place, so i thought it was the sending unit that crapped out on me. I replaced the sending unit and i thought it was working correct till the second time i turned the key the fuel gauge went past the full mark and is pointed strait down now. It's almost pointing at the E now. The gauge is acting like its not seeing a signal form the sending unit and just like the circuit is open. Anyone have any idea what is going on??? If the needle pointed down at one point it's more than likely your cluster failing. Common issue and a decent amount of threads on them. If you know your way around a soldering iron you can buy the replacement 'stepper motors' to fix it yourself. If not you have to send your cluster off to be repaired.
