i think mine just started doing this the day i pulled it in to pull the motor gauge was on empty and fuel light was on and i had filled the tank (of coarse....they never go bad when the tank is empty) a few days before that,i asume its a bad ground or something ill have to run the tank down a little and pull it and check some of the conections, could be a bad sending unit too.

Fuel Gage

I did find a mechanic on The Diesal Page who suggested I ohm connector C-152 first with a reading of 240 when full and 40 when empty. I will do that first. I may then run fuel out as much as possible, drop the tank and see if I can clean the sending unit and then move the float up and have someone ohm that connector while doing so. I called O'Rielly and they only have access to the entire unit and it's over $400.00 I will post further info on success and process when I get around to doing something. My problem is that this is my main work truck and I need it almost every day.

Mine did that in a gasser I had. At first sporadic and then almost always empty. Had to get a new sending unit. There are little "fingers" running across an electric strip they had worn off enough that they weren't touching properly.

GM Parts Direct quoted $315 for my 2002 2500HD 6.6 Turbo. Part number they gave me according to my VIN was 89060639. Looks like I will have to spend close to that $400!:(
