Got an 02 Duramax with front seal leaking. I got the seal and the tool kit for removal and installation. Now, after removing the balancer and outer half of seal I noticed the inner half appears to be pressed onto a gear and not the shaft itself. Either that or something bad has happened. If nothing bad happened what holds the gear in place when I pull the inner half of the seal with the puller. Contrary to how this post reads I have done automotive mechanic work just not on a diesel.

You will need to use the fingers on the tool it will pull the seal ring off the reluctor wheel. Here is a pic of one still on the wheel.
