Front end

Until recently, my truck was putting out whatever a built trans with a strong tune does. I could do a boosted launch with only just a hair of torque steer. FFWD to last night. I did my first 4wd hit from a stop (did not boost, just hit the throttle) since upping my tune to just over 600hp. The front end was NOT happy!

I have a kryptonite centerlink, kryptonite tie rods, Henderson super steer with weld in gusset, the Ultimate Idler, and rare parts heavy duty pitman. There's not much left to throw at this truck, lol.

I'm attaching a picture of my front end angles. Maybe I need to turn down more? The pass side is just kissing the new jounce bumpers and the drivers side is a hair higher.

I have not crawled under to inspect for anything wrong, but nothing feels out of the ordinary except the obvious. I guess I've just overpowered the current setup? Does this sound right to you guys? Or am I still too high up front?

Thanks in advance for some help.

Wally

If it's acting up like tow in or you are having to fight it to keep it on the road might need to replace all the ball joints and check wheel hubs.

The truck wanted to shake the wheel and then I had to steer off center to keep her straight. I didn't feel like it was a fight to keep it on the road, but it certainly didn't feel good!

I'll crawl under this weekend to see if there's something else to it. I noticed one tie rod end boot looked like it was leaking grease. Otherwise nothing obvious yet. I jacked up on the lower arm and used a pry bar to lift up - no movement on the ball joints.

Do the large fender mod. I'm running 295/55 with a 20x9 completely de cranked with no issues. I launch at 2k rpms with only sleeves and a dhd brace with no issues.

I did the mod on 9/2010. Our tires are almost exactly the same, maybe your wheels let them fit a little better than mine? Either way, it sounds like I need to drop the bars a little more again. Or get a 6" lift and drop that!!!! :roflmao:

I'm on 20x12s with a huge negative offset and 285/55s and I can launch 3rd gear 3500 with a clutch dump and it leaves perfect.. Just sleeves and dhd brace here.. Torsion bolts pulled all the way out.

I say go down more

just to be clear - my truck boosted launched like a beast on the stock turbo. This is only since my new turbo and new tuning; 636hp/1100ftlbs. So I get that people are lunching hard - I was too. I just can't now. :thumb:

Don't forget when you launch the front goes up and angles get worse. Go a little negative if you can.

When mine would pull off center like that... I had bent parts. Pitman arm and idler arm were both bent. I know you don't want to here that but maybe check them out. It only takes one bad launch to bend them.

I'm around 800hp and mine launches great after I replaced everything up front. I thought all my parts where good also when I checked them, even stuck a GoPro under there to see what was going on and couldn't see anything. Replaced it all and now I can launch as hard as I want but I'll just leave four black marks.

damn ok.

Without getting under there, I can only guess on possible parts that could wear out. The wheelbearings are stll stock at 85,000mi. The tie rod ends I suppose could be worn - though they are huge! The idler - no way in hell. The pitman is very unlikley, as it's pretty massive and not that old either. I had the idler box (Henderson) out not long ago and it was smooth as silk. Angles are fairly flat, but a little raised - could be a problem too. Anything that I'm forgetting?

I wonder if Tony's brace will fit with the Kryptonite, hmm.

I would be check everything over on that front end for any part that is loose or screwed up. If all is good, you need more low and/or shocks with rebound adjustment

ohhh I missed you are running a 6" lift dropped to 3". Your angles must be perfect. Like was said before, ideally maybe a hair negative to go flat when the front rises.

Shocks are silver Bilsteins of just 2 months old. Maybe not the best choice, and certainly not adjustable.

I say go drop it more up front and test your results before buying new parts. Unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket lol. What size wheels are you running? You shouldn't have any rubbing issues. I rub very slightly on my mudflap. If there wasn't any flaps I'd have plenty of room

they are Boulder 17"x8.5" running Hankook 285/70/17. I am also running adjustable upper ball joints that I clocked back for more caster. I rub just a little right now; not badly.

I'd rather not spend a dime, lol. But if i can leave like I was, and not have to drop the front really low... I'd throw a few bucks away on that

I was thinking this morning, I should back off to a smaller tune and see if it's launching like it was. If not, then it's time to figure out what went wrong. Otherwise, it's just overpowering my setup and I need to get lower.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys!

I have stock everything in my front end except for tie rods and it goes straight as an arrow.

Torsion bolts are the whole way down.
Give that a try and see what happens. :thumb:
