pulled the little turbo off today to go into the shop for some custom work to be done . found some free mods that i thought some might be interested in . and took a few pics nothing major might not even be worth anything but any extra flow is good in my opinion.

these pics show one side done and the other side untouched to show the difference it made .

this one is almost finished . but not quite a little around the edges still :D

i did the same thing to the spacer , and the same thing will be done to the turbo housing once i get it back . not bad should be a pretty good flow improvment for ZERO $$$

something i should ad the gaskets shown are the ones that came with my 1" spacer . they were much larger diameter than the ones that came with the turbo originally so you would have to look to see if you would need to buy new gaskets depending on what your turbo came with .

How much will this help? I was led to believe that porting and polishing doesnt help as much on boost applications as opposed to naturally aspirated?

Not saying it wont help just curoius is all.

were this is on the exhaust side of the motor its not realy boosted per say, i am primarily hoping for spoolup possibility's maybe drive pressure reduction possability's, dont really know yet but like i said flow /restriction reduction is always good , even if you dont feel it.

think of what high flow feed pipes or headers give you , i made simaler size increases in the pedistall ( + 1/4-1/2" ) diamiter , on both ports . wether they were undersized to begin with i dont know and that would determine the gain.

I would say that has to help. Anything to free up the flow on the exhaust side is going to give some kind of benifit.

ya know the more i think about it every ounce of exhaust that the engine will ever create has to flow through those two ports and they are not very big when you look at a 4" or 5" exhaust system we typicaly istall . i'm kinda curious now what this will do . wish it was the only mod i was doing so i could really see some before and after . oh well wasnt really planned just something i stumbled on to while working on the truck . i am sure others have done the same . port matching gaskets has been around longer than i have been alive , and i have done it many times on motor builds just never thought about it while i was working on the turbo before.

The more I think about your right. I was just thinking about "under boost" circumstances. Freeing up flow on the exhaust should help.

Trent,

Those gaskets were for a SS housing and that is why the ports are bigger. If you go too big it will be hard to match the port size on the cast iron housing. I sent those because I thought you had a SS housing.

thats what i fugured it actually worked out very good :D they would have worked without modifacation just though i could make some more flow :D , there is enough room on the cast iron housing but i just have to blend the port in a few places because there are some thin spots on the turbo housing ( cant take that much material off ), was figuring a smooth taper, first thin spot is about 1/2 " -3/4" into the turbo housing .
