Is the frame on an 07 2x4 EC classic the same as an 07 4x4 EC classic? Wondering how hard it would be to convert to 4x4. I have the chance to pick up an 07 2x4 roller for $2700. It needs everything body wise from the firewall forward, but is in great condition.

I've been told that it is the same and it's just a mater of bolting on the 4x4 stuff (to include the tranny tail piece) and reprograming the computers...but 1 person did say that there was soom welding required...sorry don't remember where...
If you need some pic's of a 2wd this weekend (dirt kart races don't start until 4pm sunday;)) just let me know what you want and I'll post some of my 2wd.

Don't think it's too bad and I believe its even easier if you add the floor shift transfer case

The frames are the same and everything swaps over. You don't even need to swap the spindles, just the hubs. The 03 I did had the wires there for the push buttons and TCCM in the dash. It's easier to swap to a new trans than to find and switch the parts IMO....

Ok you guys are getting me excited! Im going to try and talk him down to 2K, and see what he says! I've already got a diff out of an 08 that should be a good start. I've also got the stuff I removed when I lifted my truck if needed!

you'll need at least:

- new 4wd hubs but they should bolt on no problem
- half shafts/cv shafts/whatever you wanna call them
- diff. obviously
- that alum. support piece that goes on the frame on the pass. side. You can see what I'm talking about in some of the pictures in Henry's thread where he removes his engine. ;)
- do something with the frame on the driver's side for that mount on the diff. to mount up to. prob. just make a mount I'd imagine.
- front drive shaft et al.

I think that's it on the front stuff.

trans. I'm not 100% sure on but at least the following

- obviously a transfer case. I'd suggest a manually operated one versus the elec.
- 4wd tailhousing
- 4wd output shaft
- shorten the driveshaft or get one from a 4wd version of the truck.
- jumper wiring to extend the speed sensor wires to the back of the xcase
- I'm 95% sure Mike L. said something about the planetaries being different from 2wd to 4wd but not sure on that and not sure if, even though they may be different, if they have to be switched in order to have a 4wd alli.
- then some kind of wiring harness from the xcase to the front diff to actuate it (though this isn't totally necessary if you put a manual actuator on the front diff.) and up to the ECM and/or TCM. I haven't been able to get affirmitive answers on exactly where wires have to go so that the ECM and TCM know when you've engaged the xcase and have it start reading from the correct tables in the tuning.

That's what I've found in my digging on this topic as I too have a 2wd I'm trying to make 4wd. I've spoken briefly with Brayden and I think he can help with the wiring side of things to get everything talking to who it's supposed to be talking to when it's supposed to. But that's as far as I got with him. Just simply never called to get any details as it's pointless without the funds to buy something at the time. Instead of actually converting a 2wd trans. to 4wd, you might be better served to just buy a 4wd trans. and sell the 2wd unit.

All of that's kinda assuming this truck in question is a D/A setup. Not sure that was ever mentioned though. That's CHEAP if it is, in fact, a D/A truck!
