Without measuring I wouldnt hazzard a guess Simon. To be honest I dont really care. Im pretty pissed at the whole deal at the moment. Money is one thing but all the countless hours of getting nowhere with this engine for the past 8 months has been taking its toll mentally. Lately Ive felt like giving the whole Diesel thing away. But I hope I dont.

Sorry to see you got taken for a ride...that freekin sucks.
This is the reason most people suck, the guy that built that eng owes you some money or he gets a visit from some pipe-hittin bruthas!

Hope you stick with it, you'll find its better to screw things up yourself learning than to pay someone else to screw it up for you.

I would stay away from whoever built that. Checking how much the pistons stick out of the hole is a basic of blueprinting..... was the block decked a good amount:confused: It would have been an easy fix when building the motor....just chuck them up in a lathe and cut some off the top:eek:

The planned compression ratio and all the work surrounding even this minor detail was in vein...... The 14.5 to 1 may vary well been 15.5 and so....

I might be wrong but didn't the original poster build this engine himself? If so, telling him to stay away from himself is funny. Sounds like you could have used the wrong thickness of head gasket.

Could be as easy as going with different gaskets,My first build i was very close to hitting ( at high rpm )


piston protusion would tell alot....

There was a post long long ago that 2-out of 3 engine builds are succesfull:(

I was a guinee pig for my engine balancer and paid the price:(

Next build will be superior.....Listen to people like Guy and Micheal(Superdiesel) Johnboy and others alike....they have seen first hand damage.

Yes, you are wrong. But, I'm sure he wishes he had of.

A thicker gasket? Yes, by at least 28 thousandths.

The guy that you purchased the built engine from. Has he been contacted, and if so, how is he handling it? I realize this is a sore subject, I'm just wondering if he is in any way standing behind his work. Not trying to start a bash of the guy.

I pulled my (Built) engine down today to look for the noise and found out the pistons were trying to get out. Luckily the heads were there to stop them. There is damage on tops of all pistons and the head areas where they were hitting This engine has 2000 miles on it. So they have been hitting since new :eek:

Looking at the valve relief on the number 7 piston, to me it seems the valve was being touched. :confused:

that is why i said" Quote of the month":DI screw up lots ,but i can only blame myself.


It works out well because i dont like to talk to myself:D

This is why it would be nice to know what the valve relif is and what piston protusion is?And what gaskets are being used?


It could be as simple as thicker gaskets.JMO
