There is a valid argument wether or not the torsional rigidity is such a good thing. I have had a couple people complain about poor ride quality out of the 2011 trucks especially with a fairly pin heavy fifthwheel or gooseneck.

If you like your windshield not to end up leaking, your doors closing right, wind noise, hose failures, loose trim, etc, you want a rigid frame. The ride should comes from the suspension, not from the frame.

In an ideal world yes it should be the suspension doing the work of providing a nice ride.

The real issue is trying to anticipate how the ride will change as you take chassis flex out.

That is the most asinine point of view i've seen in a long time. Undampened chassis flex to make it ride better? :roflmao:

I'm positive GM and Ford both employ an army of suspension engineers whos only job is to make sure things work properly in a tradeoff of ride quality vs load capacity and stability. "figuring it out" is what they do.

If GM just showed you that the Ford frame flexes 4 times as much with a light load, the average Joe might think that frame flex isn't bad, and doesn't affect the lifespan of the vehicle.

Like breaking a coat hanger wire, you can either do it with pliers instantly, or you can bend it back and forth a 100 times. A solid frame fixes a lot of issues both at max load limits, and also in the long run.

There was a reason GM beefed the frame. Apparently they figured it wasn't strong enough.

BINGO! we had 3 brand new trucks come back to the dealer ship last year with cracked frames! Snow plows are hard on trucks and GM did some much needed strengthening!

Like I said in an ideal World a rock solid chassis and use the suspension to get a decent ride. But here in the real world there are financial limitations and unexpected results. Hence things like the 2011 hd that is very picky about ride height. I have already had to fix at lest 3 or 4 11's with ride related chassis issues.

I have no doubt the army of suspension engineers know many ways to address the issues caused by a rigid frame, but that would probably make the price of the truck too high to sell.

I have not yet been in one of the new HD Silverados or Sierras, but all the reviews I've read comparing GM, Dodge, and Ford rave about how well the GM trucks ride both loaded and unloaded.

Most have been pretty straight forward after I figured out the first one. If the z trim height is too high (cranked t bars) they get a pretty nasty slap down feeling.

The others are launch shudder problems which as of right now I don't have a warrantable fix for as of yet.

So cranking the torsion bars make them ride like garbage? That's no big surprise. My dad's truck does the launch shudder thing, and his is an 07 LMM. Neither of those sound like chassis stiffness problems.

I'll admit there's probably many factors in the launch shudder issue.

When I say front height too high I'm talking straight off the line half inch over spec. Not everyone would find it objectionable, but it's a real issue.
