So, I'm not quite a Duramax owner yet but I'm looking for one. I have the truck I want in my mind, I thought I would look to y'all for some tips and key features to look for or steer away from. Any suggestions?

Currently, I have my eyes set on a specific truck. Here's the link:

http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/1666950917.html

Given the truck is fairly new, the options and all of the mods...I don't think this truck is a bad deal at all. I figured it has close to $20k worth of work and mods. Opinions and thoughts would be appreciated here to help me along.

I've always been a HUGE Chevy fan! I know a lot about thier trucks but the diesel scene is new for me. I'm looking to expand my knowledge and I KNOW this is the best place to do so. I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty, so to speak, with these awesome trucks!

welcome

I would not buy that truck, first it has been tuned before by a predator tuner and you don't know how hard this guy romped on the truck. Not trying to kill the dream because its a sweet truck but I would hold out for a similar truck without having a tuner in it. JMO take it for what its worth.

Being that its a 2008, and seeing how its been programmed, you will have NO luck getting GM to cover ANY engine failures, due to defect or not. The ECMs in the new trucks incriment the checsum each time the vehicle is programmed (so to speak) and if a GM tech taps into the ECM and sees that this number does not match a list of whats approved its warranty void, completely and alltogether. Just a heads up.

Programer or not up here the lift alone would void the warranty. Still a bad azz truck, reminds me to get off my duff and put sfa in. Welcome to the site.

I wouldnt buy it but thats me. I would rather buy a bone stock truck and build it the way I wanted. Nothing worst then to buy that and end up with motor problems because they beat the eyeballs out of it with a hot tune loaded on it. Also have to worry about the trans turning those big tires and being tuned as to how hard it was beat on. You could get a great truck or end up having to drop several thousand dollars more in it building the transmission or fixing any other issue it may have. Also does it still have the DPF and factory exhaust on it?

All I know about the truck is what the listing says. I haven't looked that hard into it yet so, I don't know if it's still running stock exhaust or not. It wouldn't make sense for it to have the stock on it though. But you guys make some good points with the programmer. That's something I'll have to weigh out heavily. That's a good point on the warranty also. I'll have to do some research and really dig into and look at that truck if I decide to take a look at it. I should be able to tell what it's been thru. If not, I have a friend that's a diesel mechanic that could help me out. As for the mods, I haven't seen anything on it that I don't already want. The only thing I would change is the lift. I want that RIZE 10" lift for the Duramax's. But that's not that big of a deal.

Thanks for the input guys! I look forward to soaking up all of the knowledge that I can!

I talked my buddy that owns a local off-road shop. It turns out that his shop built that truck. The guy that owns it has some serious money and bought a new truck about every year. My buddy said the truck is in immaculate condition! The only problem I have with it now is that it only has the SLE package. I used to have a 2005 Silverado 1500 last year that I was t-boned in and totalled...it had the LT package and now I'm spoiled. Lol! It sounds bad but those bells and whistles stick to you! Lol!
