Allison 6sp: Fluid color made me poop a little....

I dropped my drive shaft while putting my lift pumps in, and noticed the fluid that came out of the drive shaft was pretty dark... it wasnt exactly brown but it was a dark gold, so immediately I started worrying about the trans. Long story short the fluid in the trans is still nice and red, smells fine, no signs of being burnt or damaged.

So why does the fluid in the transfer case area get burnt? low fluid flow, poor circulation?

How would the fluid being brown in the T case have anything to do with your trans fluid?

X2. The transmission and transfer case fluid are separate. I would say just service your transfer case fluid.

Tranny fluid and transfer case fluid should not be mixing. They're separated by a seal on the tranny output and a seal on the case input. And it's not uncommon for the fluid in the case to turn dark. Probably should change it though

ahhh ok i was thinking they were common fluid, DOH...
