Just bought my truck over a month ago. Unfortunately, I have no way of finding out how the previous owner maintained the truck. The first thing I did was change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and flushed the coolant. The mileage is just shy of 100K and based on everything else I've noticed with this truck, I doubt the tranny filter or fluid was ever changed.
I've encountered tranny problems in the past and I've been told on more than one occasion that once a tranny gets so many miles on it with old fluid, that changing the fluid can actually be detrimental to it. Something about the conditioner in the new fluid can cause problems. This is my first encounter with the Allison transmission and I don't want screw up, like I've been accused of doing in the past. You guys are a lot more knowledgable than I. What are your thoughts?
