So two weeks ago I got a customers 02' Duramax in that he wanted an 05' LLY installed and thanks to some help from people on here it took some of the guess work out of this swap. I worked on this in my spare time and a couple Fridays and Saturdays and in the evening after work finishing with the tuning today. first off thank you Russ from RPM motorsports for the wiring harness adapter idea using the LB7 harness and adapting the under valve cover harness from the LB7 for the injector adapters. and extending the Rail sensor harness. Also wanted to add that this was a Cali LB7 with the vacuum egr system which I did away with, since the lly bridge would not work with the LB7 turbo/mouthpiece I had to modify the CALI bride and I cut the riser/port for the egr off the side and made a alluminium plate and tig welded it on the hole then smoothed it to where it looked clean. Also cut the riser off the up pipe and welded shut. The top coolant pipe had to be used off the LB7 as the LLY on had a different port for the coolant line and the tab that bolts it to the T'stat housing was clocked different. so I modified the LB7 pipe to bolt down to the drivers valve cover, The FICM bracket made me scatch my head for a bit and I ended up making one from the two and bolting it n the LLY locaton. I removed the hard plastic cover from the harness going from the drivers side to the pass side and used flexable loom to protect it. For some reason I had to extend two of the drivers side rear glow plug wires, and also used the LB7 GP controller. I had to change out the FPR from the LLY and put the LB7 one on as the LLY one was going bad and would creep up to 15K at idle rail pressure and surge at idle.
As for the tuning I spent 4-5 hours and had it dialed in good and running awesome, Timing, Pilot and main injection were all the changes I needed. I'm glad I tackled this project and was starting to second guess taking it on when I found out all of the well known tuners except one turned me down to tune it and I can't say that I blame them as it would be very hard to tune since using the scan tool did not aid much in the dialing in of this setup it was more sound, how it idled and drivability. At first it had a bad miss up past 2k when just revving it up and driving it and timing took care of this. Main injection and Pilot injection took care of the rest. Let me know if anyone has any questons.
