Is there a coating on his vanes like the stock vanes? Also, the material he uses is stainless, correct? The reason I'm asking is that I pulled my turbo and a couple of the vanes have nicks in the surface and I was wondering if I could sand them smooth again without screwing anything up.

No coating on the vanes. They are stainless.
How big are the nicks? Where did they come from?
Superficial scratches and nicks should not impact performance.

They came from chunks of the turbine. I sanded the nicks down smooth but there are still some slight gouges in the face of the vanes.

They are more beat up than I would run. If you are looking for that special whistle in your turbo, you have the right part there.
