So I am pretty sure I have a boost leak on my truck.

I have the super diesel manifold on my truck. To try and find the boost leak I want to put a fitting on the SD manifold and hook my compressor to it. Will this work or will it require to much air since it is trying to pressurize the engine?

Thanks in Advance

Find two plugs to put in the ends of intercooler tubes then find a fitting to go into the Super Diesel manifold. That would be your best bet.

You can make up a cap for pressurizing the system through the turbo. It will pressurize everything and air will escape through the exhaust. Then spray all fittings , intercooler, lines, etc. with soapy water. You will find any problems. Even spray the turbo to see if the compressor housing is leaking.

Best way is to cap and pressurize the intercooler with about 25 psi and see if it holds, if it does take the same plug/caps and install then in the rubber boots running to the rest of the engine/ turbo/ etc..take a rag and tape up the exhaust so no air can come out.

Turn the air on to 100psi or so and listen for leaks, I used Windex however as mentioned soapy water will work also.

I found our leak at the passenger side exhaust manifold. Tightened it up and no more leaks.

I have the caps and can ship them if needed..

PS, for turning the air on wear something sexy..

I may take you up on your offer now for the plugs. I now have a severe boost leak or a blown turbo. I am going to check a few things tommorow and see what I can come up with.

I was seeing anywhere from 28 to 30 psi. Now I cant get any out of it at all. From what I can see with the intake horn still on it does not look like the compressor housing is scored in anyway. I can see the wheel rotating it looks good. It is not making any funny noises at all.

Its no more smoke than before the turbo would light up. The problem is now I am not making enough boost to clear up the smoke. So in a way yes it is smoking more than normal.

I finally got time to get the intake horn off to check the turbo. It has ZERO play whatsoever. Could a fin on the exhaust side be broken off?

I would think it would make some weird noises and have a vibration if it were that. I'll bet it's the innercooler, don't build boost worth a darn if it has a big hole in it.
