I'm not sure how many of you have taken off your OEM front bumper, but its a heavy piece!

How many of you have switched over to a lighter setup?

Ideally, I'd love to see a urethane replacement for the steel middle piece, with all of the mounting holes for the top cap and lower valance (referring to the chevrolet clip).

Ive seen the fiberglass middle piece from Ansari (sp) with the three light holes (for $400 ).

Maybe get a bumper cover and just run that with some clips?

I have thought about getting one of those SS front bumper covers and running it by itself. You would have to make some brackets to mount it and keep it from flopping around, but I think it could be done.

Yeah thats a possibility, I just hate the look of that thing lol. If they made a different style of cover that would probably be the way to go.

Call GTS Fiberglass near St Louis, Mo. Great to deal with. My front bumper skin weighs just under 5lbs. They can make them as heavy duty as you need. Nice gelcoat finish.

If you dont mind what that cost close to I wouldnt mind doing it to mine to color match.

I am happy to post pics once its done but its a long way down the priority list to get done on the truck - maybe someone else can post pics of one installed (especially mounting brackets)

Thats what I was thinking about right now. Would have to resin in some metal around the edges and leave threaded areas or brackets already welds on. I'm not wanting it for weight savings just a smoother looking front end and color match it all.

Ya that stock unit is no lightweight! The rear is damn heavy too. I may consider one of those puppys VS all painted stock stuff. Heck i need to buy that crap anyway, might as well weigh less:thumb:

This is what i wanted to do.

Take the middle piece of a stock bumper, the metal/heavy part.

Get this piece molded and reproduce a replica in ABS plastic or the like, that way there are mounting holes for the OEM top cap and lower valance, and the middle is plastic instead of steel.
