I cant win this, I've tried everything, the fan clutch just wont go away. I thought I had it figured out as being when the trans temp climbed up to 190* that was making it just hot enough to engage the clutch, but since installing the Mike L. cooler and a fan on top of it, I still get the clutch in 95* plus weather. The trucks not overheating, never has, I just hate the noise associated with this clutch. So far I have the fender scoop, the volant cac with scoop, I've gotten rid of the egr cooler/motor, the intake tube is wrapped with a heat resistan blanket, I have the KB stack seal "modified by me" and all the fluids are new.

Do ya'll have any suggestions for me to try, I'm not shelling out $900 for Tx's V2 mod................

I had an idea to maybe cut some verticle vents in the plastic splash gaurd and some vents in the wheel well liners to help evacuate some of the under hood heat, but I hate to start cutting if its for nothing

The Mike L. cooler does help in keeping the trans temps down, I'm seeing approximate 10 - 15* on the scan gauge, no matter if I have the elec. fan spinning or not.

Larry I installed dual ford taurus fans in my truck and have yet to over heat it while towing around 10,000 pounds from minnesota to texas. I sure do love not hearing that darn fan anymore.

Have you thought about putting some different fluid in it?:) We have done that before on some race cars, but never tried it on a DD before.

I changed over to Rotella Dino from Delo, I had tried Mobile one Synthetic but my dipstock started blowing out, changed back to Dino oil and that quit. I had the Radiator flushed and fresh dexcool put back in and installed the Mike L. trans cooler too. My trans temps dropped as expected, but the fan clutch still engages.

I'm about to get the dremel out and modify my wheel well liners and the plastic skid plate to see if I can help circulate some of the hot underhood air out.

This is really getting old.............

I was actually talking about the fluid in the fan clutch.:) The old ones had a plug you could take out and drain them. You could put anything you wanted in it. I tried water even once.:D ATF worked pretty good usually.

I'm not sure what it was, but it was brown, thick as hell and smelled real bad.... Had a thickness about like Lucas oil stabilizer is the closest thing I can think of right now.
I'm not sure if they even still work like that anymore. I just remember we used to drain them when we put them on circle track cars and put thinner stuff in. We usually put in 30 weight motor oil or ATF because it was thinner and let it slip more than whatever came in them.
I''m not sure if it would even help on a diesel that works hard every day. The thinner fluid would probably heat up faster and might drag a little bit all the time making it just about the same as a higher load every so often.:dontknow:

Larry, I believe your A/C will cause your fan to kick in as well but I'm not 100% on that. Some vehicles do, some don't.

When was the last time you pulled your intercooler out to wash and remove the straw, bugs, grocery bags and small children that like to get up in there once in awhile?

Your only other option is to buy a "cough"LBZ or LMM"cough":D
