Well I got the red power wire into the harness, the black one was tough going in at about half way... Yes it was going in the correct way. Tryed to pull it back out and the wire became unsoldiered... I went ahead and pushed the pin al the way down (i think) cus it wouldnt come back out..

So the wire is just hangin there and may fall out?? what will happen if that ground falls out or isnt seated right? just my dsp wont work or will the truck have problems?

what are my options guys

EDIT: I think I will be fine, as I was told If that ground won't work, I can just ground the wire somewhere else on the truck (and that was just the best spot to ground it).. So alternator bracket, motormount, framer? where would be the second best place for a ground?

A DSP2 switch can be grounded anywhere (or at least it works well for me). Not sure about the DSP5 though. If you don't have a circuit, all it does is stay in the base tune. For my stuff, that means full race.

Thanks Pat that was what I was just told over the phone... I dont see why It would be any different than a DSP2?! Whats the matter Pat, you not very good either when it comes to ecm wiring lol

Under the dash on a Dmax, there is a 3/8"? dia hole in the steel to the left of the steering column, this is where I put the ground and the DSP2 switch itself.

You should use a very small flat screwdriver (jewelers) to push the pins in by the pin itself.

That what I used.. Actually I think it's the first time I've ever even touched a precision screw driver... That hole is behind the dash plastic? Do I take off the dash to get to it, or can I stick my head under by the pedels to find it? In anyway I am going to see if it will ground where it is now, and if theres any problems with it becoming loose I will revert to your idea

I have the dsp5 switch, just haven't installed, so just checkin this out for learning. Once the pin is seated into the harness, can u not push the pin back out of the harness?

Also, if you can't push the pin back out, but the wire is in the pin, can you just superglue that wire inside the plastic slot so it won't back out, and will stay connected to the pin?

There pin will not release without doing some extra steps which I dare not mess with.. the Power wire will be easy, just kinda hard on the ground because theres somany wires blocking your view and access to it.

I have my DSP 5 grounded under the hood.

I had hell getting that last pin inserted.

Take a needle and push it out the other side if you break it off in there. Don't ask me how I know.. :D

Thanks 8100 Power, thats what I wanted to hear. It would be easiest for me if I just spliced it into my relay for my lift pump that is grounded directly to the battery. That should be fine, shouldnt it? would it matter what side of the relay wire I tap? battery side wire, or lift pump to relay wire?? hmmmm

I grounded from the Metal bracket from the side panel that crosses under the hood springs. Back the bolt out and scrape the metal down, attach wire, then your good to go. I would of grounded under the dash, but I had already routed the wire under the hood.

I'm just gonna add some wire because I dont want to cut either the black or red wires when I'm trying to spilt the grey wire casing. I only have 16 gauge at the house, I can use that without problems, correct? My way of thinking is you can go bigger, it's only when you go smaller that you burn wires up. The current should still flow just as fast/at full power, correct?

You won't fit 16 inside that PIN, if you just going to ground it I don't see why not. But, take a razor and split the end of that grey stuff and you should be ok.

Already got r done. I did use the 16 gauge for the ground wire. and mounted it (aswell as my lift pump ground) on the bolt that holds the fender to the cab. Its that black sliver of a moon shaped support up near the hood spring, I think its probably the same place that you chose. Or atleast what I understood when I read your post. Grounds out pretty good according to my lift pump pressure :thumb: Thanks for the help

Yep, that's what I used.

Glad it's working.

X2 I did the same thing but found a small enough paper clip. I solder the SOBs after that.

I cut the wrap off the wires so I had enough slack I could get to the pin location for the ground. I know its ok I just much rather have the switch grounded to the ECM.

I still have to do my high idle switch. So, I'll have to do this again as I broke one off in there and ran out of daylight to finish it up. Does soldering it help stiffin it? (No sex jokes please :D) I was having alot of trouble getting that second one in there. (again, no sex jokes. :D)
