I have a small leak at the bottom of where the extension housing meets the main case on my Allison. I have looked it and I can not see a crack. fluid is not pouring out, i just noticed a few drops on the floor, have been cleanign and checking it for a couple days, cleaned it last night, let it sit over night and it was wet again.

The front U joint on the driveline is "loose" but no visible play, just not as tight as the rear joint. have a thread on my t case/driveline issue here:

Parts on order to repair/balance joints and driveline

From what i have researched, trans HAS to be pulled and stood on end before the housing is removed. I there anything else i need other than a new gasket and possibly(most likely) a new housing?

i have attached pics to show leak

Judging from your description, and pictures, you don't need a new housing. Just a gasket.

Have you checked the bolts to see if they are tight? Has a leak years ago and it turned out i had a couple of bolts loose.

so i drained the transmission last night as well as t case, got the t case pulled and got a better look at it, took a couple pics, but i have a bunch of fluid on the driver side of the pan where the gasket is.

so is it possible my pan gasket was leaking and running back and wicking up into the paper gasket of the extension housing? or is it the other way around, coming down from the extension housing and running up the pan gasket? both seem a bit far fetched, but the extension housing gasket does touch the pan gasket at the very back.

i brake cleaned it all of and will check again tomorrow to see if the leak comes back.

with the pan drained is there still fluid int he extension housing area to leak?

I know from experience that oil under any vehicle can end up anywhere. Oil can travel forward if the right airflow is happening. So it is possible that a leaking pan gasket will let oil travel backwards and then get pushed up into the extension housing area.

It was bone dry after sitting for a day and a half, may swap the pan gasket and put it back together, and risk a t case gasket and another 1.5hours of work. We will see.

I've never seen an extension gasket leak. It is usualy linkage seal, pan gasket or harness connector leaking. Sometimes overflow also.

been back together 2 weeks or so, no leaks, it was the pan gasket, torqued it on properly, new driveline, rebuilt t case and some traction bars, all good to go, thanks for the help
