Post what you use and why you like it.

I like Hitachi/Deere (they are the same excavator). They are extremely quiet and the Hydraulics are very smooth.

My dad's company has

Link Belt: 210, 240, 460

CAT: 365

JD/Hitachi : 1 330 of each

Komatsu: 400, 200

Case: 210

Bobcat: 442

Kabota: 161-3

Honestly I am very impressed with how CAT has stepped up on their excavators and really like running the 365. Link Belt and Case are are essentially the same and a very good quality excavator. Komatsu has always been good but haven't got to run a new one like the rest of our hoes are, the Komatsu is a 94.

But I agree I prefer an Hitachi/JD and the only reason all of our hoes aren't that is because we don't have a dealer up here so no warranty guy here or parts if something breaks.

We had 6 PC400s I didnt care for them too much. bought them cause Komatsu had 0% on them and I only needed them for one job. All are sold now. A komatsu dozer is a different story though:D

We use a little bit of everything. Volvo's suck. Cats are the most reliable. I usually use a 345 cat in my pipeyard and a 450 johndeere on the right of way. The Johndeere has a little more lift capacity and tracks twice as fast. I string steel pipe that is 80' long and 42" in diameter. One piece of the heaviest wall thickness can weigh upwards of 28000 lbs. We basically have both machines overloaded but we would have to keep a d8 dozer hooked to a 365 so we get by with what we have to.

I have never owned a CAT excavator. I will have one on demo next week, a 330. I can't wait to get in it

I would say you will be pleased with a cat. When we have a job fully going we will have any where from 90 to 100 trackhoe's and probably 85% are cat.

Im not an expert by any means, I dont run heavy equipment everyday or anything, but just from my own limited "personal/hobby" experience....ive used case, cat, and hitachi. They all got the job done just the same.....but the hitachi was just so much more noticeably refined...everything felt a little more precise, tight, and...well..japanese...

the electronic throttle control and electronic climate control on the hitachi is really sweet too. :cool2:

Hitachi Prolly has the best hydraulic's. I like them but, I am open to others.

We haul a lot of larger excavators for contractors and dealers all over Indiana. Just moved a Cat 385 last week, big sumbitch!!

With the newer machines, I'd give the edge to Komatsu. Their hydraulics are just silky smooth, especially the PC600's. Nice all around machines. But really with most of the current excavators, you're really splitting hairs to say one is much better than the others. All of 'em are really nice machines.

With that said, the only one I own now is a Hitachi EX300. At the time I bought it, I was really impressed with the swing speed. You could load a trial axle in 7 passes with a 20 second cycle time. I do think that the Hitachi hoes have suffered a bit since Deere took over the US distribution (and I like Deere equipment). They just seem slioghtly lazier than they used to.

Oh yeah, speking of big machines, we're working on a quote now that includes disassembly, transport and reassembly of three Hitachi EX5500's, two EX1200's, and three Cat 5230's!! Now that's BIG iron.
