I did some searching on this and I think I'm fine, but wanted to ask here before I call it good. This weekend I was towing about a 7500 pound box trailer that has ALOT of wind drag to it with the BURB running 60-65 into about a 15 MPH headwind. Outside temp was about 94-95 degrees and I had both airs blasting on high. The engine temps got up to about 200-205 on my guage which is the highest she has gotten so far on me. The fan clutch never kicked in, not even when I came to a redlight(engine temps would drop coming up to a redlight though). EGT's were holding around 650-675 post turbo, and boost was around 10 or so and it was FLAT land. Are these numbers pretty well normal? I know when I had the 6.5 210 was pretty much as hot as you wanted to keep it for any length of time, just not sure what is safe on a DURAMAX yet? I'm going to install a deflector in my bumper to help push more airflow through the stack as my grille opening is rather small compared to a NBS truck.

I wouldnt worry about it at all. If the fan clutch wasnt even kicking in its nowhere "danger zone".

I would probably back out of it at 240*, IMO. Anything below that is normal, as long as the fan is keeping up....if the fan kicks in and the temp continues to climb at the same rate it was climbing pre-fan-engagement, THEN you have a problem.

Sounds good. I was probably running close to 15,500-16,000 gross weight, so she wasn't loaded heavy but not light either. And this trailer sticks up over 4 feet above my roof and is 8 1/2 feet wide, so windage was WAY up there. I'm gonna back my timing back down though to be safe. I was running 40% and it never seemed to heat up, but at 50% it seems to warm up more towing.

i wouldnt worry too much ferm. i ran your tune pullin 12k behind me and she ran great! every time i pull the temp will be right up to 205-210 with or with out your tune. theres been one time i went above that and that was goin from phoenix to san diego, there is a long hill jsut outside of san diego and i was haulin a heavy ass 27ft all wood v boat up it in 110 degree wheather. i was pushin it kinda hard to see when and if it would get hot and about half way up with the engine fan on it started climin to 220-225 (this is what my edge at the time said, guage had jsut started to move at that point) so i got out of it but it really take alot to get these LB7s to heat up

My current daily driver tune is a bit much for towing, I've stepped it up a bit from that tune:D. I just didn't know what was considered hot for these as I know my old 6.5 at 220 is about where head gaskets would let loose(or at least they did for me at 225).

It seems about normal to me , my truck is usually a tick over the 200 mark when towing , and def wouldn't worry until the fan was running full time and temps not dropping .
