in the buckeye state
i get this discription.
When the ECM is in engine protection mode stage 1, this is the maximum amount of fuel that can be injected.
Engine protection modes are generally entered once certain fault codes are set or engine sensors are faulty.

what has to be "trip" to do this? my thought precess would say stuff liek no oil pressure, lose of voltage to a critical sensor,ie cam, crank....

anyone care to speculat or have an answer????????

I think pretty much any sensor that can harm the engine if it is out of range for a certain amount of time or in an unknown state will cause this. Cam and Crank position sensor that lose their signal to the ecm generally will shut the engine down not derate. Engine coolant/oil overtemps will usually derate, and I think out of range differences between engine rpm, gear range and wheel speed sensor's will cause this to happen also. I'm sure there are many others that are more specific to the GM electrical system. All ECM's are programmed to have some codes or combinations of codes that will start with just simple trip a light and/or set a code situations, to the extreme of actually shutting the engine down-depending on the vehicle model/manufacturer's preset limits.

As far as specific's, you would have to refer to the GM manual, or a GM tech to find out.

so cal
yep limp mode sucks was in it for a week after i swiched my turbo and took soem time to get it sorted out. but basicly becuase the truck wasent seeing the correct voltages so it cause first a soft code then a hard code then after max eorr time cause limp. some hard codes will cause lmp others will not just set a cell jsut depends on programing
