I'm not sure if this is the right location for this post and if it's not I'm sorry. I was curious if anyone has ever installed an egt probe in the plate used to block off up pipe riser when the egr is deleted. I just deleted the egr on a customers LLY and will be installing gauges in his truck next week. I've always just installed the probe in the pass side exhaust manifold but thought if this location worked it would be an easier install.

I think I've read about people using that spot for a EGT probe location.

I bet the temp readings will be slightly lower in that location.
IDK if that's a big concern or not. If the uppipe is already on tho I can't see it being an easier install...and i would think you'd have a better chance blowing out and catching the debris with the "grease the bit and running engine" routine while drilling the manifold vs the uppipe riser...maybe not...

As I'm sure you're aware, technical install info for the probe says to locate it between 2" and 4" from the last exhaust port...

I was on a marine site and in some cases use a dual gauge with a probe before and after the turbo and the number in between is a better overall indicator than just the one. What I did find out when installing an isspro gauge with the weather pack connectors is much easier install than the two wires and shrink wrap, few bucks more but worth it to me.

One issue I had was the temperatures, the left bank was running 700f the right was at 1300 going down the freeway. What I found was I had put too much of a kink in the wire at the ring terminal to make it fit in the pod. I removed the gauge rerouted the wires in the pod and now have equal temperatures.

I wouldn't care what the number is between pre turbo and post turbo...I want to know what the number is right out of the manifold.

With all the "stuff" I have read about EGT's and how fast they drop after a long drive the oil temperature would be a better indicator of how hot the motor really is.

It would be an easier install because I can just remove the egr riser block off plate to drill and tap it. I've seen people have their egr riser cut off then welded shut with a bung to mount the egt probe or to read drive pressure but I've never seen anyone install the egt probe in just the block off plate.

I don't know how that would be any easier then the pass side manifold you have complete access to it with the fender liner removed and its huarenteed to be most accurate.

Probe needs to be in the flow of exhaust gasses. You can put it in the up-pipe, but not in the egr riser. As stated, you'll have VERY delayed temp readings.
