Hi im new to the site. I have an 06 4500 with 22000 miles on it. The check engine light came on recently and the code said something about an egr fault. So i found this site and did some reading and found out that that darn egr is a pretty bad deal. So my question is what should i do? Does the fact that the light came on mean that something is plugged? My dad wants me to take it to the dealer but if its plugged im sure they'll charge a buttload. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the EGR is an emission system 
, and is a direct part of the engine, so it should still be coverd as long as you're within 5 years of the purchase date (you're obviously under 100k). If it is withing that time period, the simplest option would be to take it to the dealer and have it fixed. If you post the actual code, we may be able to get a better idea where the problem is.
