My uncle has an 07 lbz with an active p0403 code for Egr circuit. I talked him into deleting the Egr but then I found out that a tuner has to be purchased and I don't know if he will go for that. He babies the truck and wouldn't want any power adders on it. The truck has 56k miles and is getting 13 mpg with soft driving. What should the truck be getting? It's totally stock. I'm wanting to know how to go about fixing it. im thinking about removing the Egr valve and cleaning it and putting it back in, then blocking the cooler, deleting the intake heater, reroute ccv. Maybe deleting the cat with an aftermarket down pipe that will hook into the stock system. I am looking to get his mileage back and clear the junk out of the intake to make the truck run like it should. I am firmiliar with powerstrokes but not duramax. Please help

Your uncle sounds like my dad haha. It'll take a bit of convincing but he'll totally appreciate it once your done. Sounds like your going down the right path with basically "bulletproofing" his truck. A good quality EFI tune will take care of the MIL when deleting the EGR, and you can still get a "stock" hp tune, just one that will get a lot better mileage. Plus you can tune in a turbo brake like what the new Dmax's have if he hauls a lot. I would leave the intake heater alone as it doesn't hinder much if any on a stock truck.

It took a long time to convince my dad to tune/delete his '09 LMM as it only had 20,000 miles on it and he worried about the warranty. However once I finally did it he regretted ever waiting so long.
