EFI Live Tuning

I am wondering if i will be able to use a buddies tuner to install EFI Live. He has an LBZ and I have an LML, and not sure if the tuner itself has to be for the correct year model truck. I also have seen that some tuners are locked, and wondering how you find out if they're locked or unlocked. Some may think it's a dumb question but I honestly can't find an answer for it.

he has a spade tuner from duramaxtuner. I am waiting for the reply from him to see if it's an autocal or flashscan

That's what I have seen, but trying to figure out if its true or not. If they're the same I would assume I'm okay to use his..

but they would have to be from DuramaxTuner since they wrote tunes for his truck...

Yes. The spade (autocal) is locked to Duramaxtuners v2.

The auto cal would have to be formatted for the LML as well, as the LBZ doesn't share the same ECM as the LML.

Your tuner should be able to walk you thru adding the LML formatting. Or you can look it up on the Efilive site.
