Good evening everyone. Just got back from a wonderful week at Sturgis South Dakota. Our 1 ton 2005 Chevy fared well however going up extended incline Towing approximately 21000 pounds our transmission coolant alarm sound it off. We had to pull over and let it cool down. We have done a lot of modifications large your throat on the turbo deleted catalytic converter and also installed a programmer. Any suggestions for the overheating condition. I have read larger radiator and fan since they have made that change in the 2006 model. Any other suggestions out there besides getting a bigger truck. We pull a 2016 Cyclone toy hauler and at that time we had two Harley's in the back. We really love the truck however I've been seeing a lot of sport M2 freightliners pulling this model. We only have a hundred and seventeen thousand miles on this truck and it is in mint condition. Don't get me wrong it didn't hurt the truck I just want to make sure that it is capable of hauling such a large RV for the Long Haul when we retire. Thanks everybody

Trans overtemp isn't that common. Engine overheat is fairly common on the LLY's, but you just don't hear much about the ALLISON unless it's on it's way out. So it was the trans overheating or was it the engine? If it is the trans, I would start by making sure all the colors are clean and flowing air properly. Also wouldn't hurt to have the coolers checked to make sure they aren't plugged internally like from a failing converter or something. There are larger trans coolers out there as well as several things you can do to lower engine temps to help with the overall heating issue.
