Hello all, I'll be picking up a duramax powered truck as soon as I can get my 06 Cummins sold. Great truck but just too costly
My question is what kind of power can you expect out of an 04-05 with your basic bolts ons(intake, exhaust) built transmission, lift pump, and efi live? I don't see the money right now to spring for a second cp3 or turbo, so what are your limits running the stock cp3 and turbo powerwise?
Also I see alot of other parts like EGR eliminator, boost fooler, etc.? I'm not too familiar with the EGR setups and some of these complex electronics with the duramax comming from the dodge world, you know our best weapon is the smarty and that is basically idiot proof, any help would be greatly appreciated.
From what I have read it seems like the LLY is the more neglected motor out of the generations, but I have seen tons of parts just for that motor, what should I spend my money on, assuming I'l have a little to play with after the other parts I mentioned.

My reccomendation would be to go with an '06 or newer as they have a little more umph out of the box and the 6 speed is nice. But EFI does not support DSP in the LBZ/LMM so whatever program you got in-your stuck with unless you reflash.

With an 04-05 LLY, and those mods, you should have no problem making 450 - 500 RWHP. And you will be happy with it. Don't forget to do the Fuel Pressure Relief Valve, re-route the PCV, and a Diamond Eye downpipe would also be a nice addition.

I highly disagree!

More money for not that much more truck, I more gear, and a measly 50 hp. Save what you would spend on an 06 and put that money towards an awesome tranny.

I have an 04 LLY and it put down 494 hp with the basic bolt ons. Tranny, liftpump, exhaust. It still had the stock intake at the time. The small thinngs like EGR blocker and FPRV shim are things that should be done anyways and are very inexpensive.

Oh, remember that my truck only put down 494 hp...... Well, it has gone 12.81 @ 104 with the exact same mods listed above. There is another LLY here in the 12.40's with only basic mods.

Hope that helps.

PS: I know this is going to turn into an LLY v. LBZ thread now.:D

Nope.
I'm a little biased because I like my LBZ so much more than I ever liked my LLY. More goodies for the same damn price!!

LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM-either way, it's better than any Dodge! Welcome to the Dmax community!

LLY all the way. I have beating my to hell and back and she still fires when i hit the key. I would get the ppe race rail and ppe lift pump. And the egr blocker from ppe. A ppe tranny. And a couple other bolt ons and u will be well into the 12's Find a good efi live tuner and be deep into the 12's on stock charger.

LBZ all the way. All the mods with a stock tranny. Will not last for ever at this HP but at 5400' elevation its holding. At see level it didn't like the power. I have never lifted but I have gotten TQ converter shuttered a couple of time. PPE HOT+2ET I also like the fact that the CP3 keeps up alot better with out having to mod it.
