I'm in an argument with a guy trying to say that the duramax is based off of a 6.3 gas motor. I'm telling him he is wrong. Am I right?

He he :roflmao:

That rumor comes up all the time because of the Olds converted 5.7 gas motor. If I remember correctly.

It's a GM/Isuzu/Bosch combined design not based on ANY gas engine design. Isuzu has been the leader in midsize diesel design and operation for over 70 years. Your dealing with an idiot who likes to argue over something they don't know anything about or got poor info some where and takes it for the bible. You know what they say about arguing with an idiot? Don't do it. Let him speak his foolishness to others who know better as well. He will label himself. Put it down and walk away.

Lol It made my night at work go by faster, so it was worth the arguing. I backed him into a corner and he bowed down. I think its the longest status update conversation I have had on facebook.

Pretty sure he is thinking of the GM 6.2 diesel

The 6.2 was also a ground up diesel engine with it's only commonality with a GM gas engine being that GM requested that DETROIT make it directly swap into the space that a 350 or 454 previously occupied. The only diesel engines that I am aware of that were used in cars and LD trucks that were based off of gas engines were the infamous 5.7L GM diesel, the 4.3L diesel V-6, and the good ole international 6.9L diesel that made it into so many FORD 250/350 pickups from 81-87. Most of teh FORD guys that hate on GM and say how the 6.2/6.5 was just a converted gas engine get REAL quiet when you point out that there beloved trucks first diesel offerring was a failed gas engine used from late 76 to early 78 in a medium sized INTERNATIONAL tractor.

I drove one of those Fords the other day... 6.9 w/ a banks turbo kit. All I can say is wow we have come a long way. Can only imagine without the turbo.... I think my Dad's 84 chev work truck with a 6.2 / banks turbo would pull that thing. It was an experience... (that is after it started... 27 minutes of cranking later.... truck only has 90k on it too)

Tell him its based on a matter/ anti-matter reactor core with a dylithium chamber to control the reaction of 99% pure energy.

Guys like that are fun.

Never argue with them, because then fewer folk get to enjoy their cluelessness.

But if you must, say:

"Not quite. The Duramax was originally designed to power the C5R Corvette Endurance Racer. However, due to the lack of a current diesel powered Corvette model, it was outlawed, so they had to put spark plugs in it in order to race.

This is why the C5R was so dominant in roadracing at the time. Diesels are built much stronger, so the Corvette Duramax engine outlasted all the other competitors like the Viper, Ferrari, Porsche and BMW.

However, there will be a 15th Anniversary Corvette Duramax Edition in 2014, celebrating the all the successes that both the C5R (LB7 Duramax), and C6R (LBZ Duramax) have achieved at the racetrack. It will have a hood stack exhaust and a tow rating of 8,000lb, and only come in Competition Yellow like the originals."
