ive checked everthing 4-5 times, pins are in the right spot, ive tried about 4 dif grounds and everytime i check the scan tool it stays at 4.7v and dsp #1 no matter where the switch is, could it be a bad switch or what.

What do you mean you've tried 4 different grounds? The black wire gets plugged into a ground on the ECM and the red goes into the ECM for the signal. There should only be 2 wires, nothing to ground to the truck itself. Do you have a DSP5 tune loaded on the truck? Did you do a full flash (bold red arrow) to load it in? Did you remove the purple (if we are talking about your LBZ) pin lock, insert the pins into the correct holes, and reinstall the pin lock? The picture that shows where to put the pins can be a little confusing since it is a view from the plug side of the connection and not the wire side.

in the efi tutorial they said they grounded it under the dash, ive tried that and a couple other places where i have my gauges grounded and the ECM ground location all with the same result.

then your ecm pin is not seated all the way in the plug. use a paper clip to puch it all the way in then re insert the pink retaining clip. also double check your pin location :)

Make sure you got the right connecters, I mixed up my LLY and LB7 DSP-5 switch/pins and ended up messing them up forcing the LB7 pins into the LLY ECM.......

just tried this and it got worse, now it says 5.01v and no dsp tune, ive checked the pin locations a bunch of times and yes they are set in all the way.

What are you grounding under the dash? At one moment you say you ground it under the dash, then you say "they" are set in all the way? There are only 2 wires, both of which should be plugged into the ECM, one of which is the ground. Make sure you plugged the pins in in the right direction, they shouldn't take much force at all to push in if you have them facing the right way, and once they are all the way in you shouldn't be able to pull them back out, even without the purple/pink pin lock in place. Also note that in the picture you are looking at the ECM side of the plug and not the side you are putting the wires in. So if you are looking at it from the back (wire side) with the slide out release to your right the red wire should be in the 3rd pin position from the LEFT, on the second row down, next to a gray wire; the black wire should be in the 6th pin from the RIGHT, in the 3rd row down, next to a yellow/black wire. Then be sure you have full flashed a DSP5 tune into the ECM with the correct voltages set in it. Now, with the switch all the way to the right it should read over 4 volts, the further to the left you click the lower the voltage should go.

well if u re-read what i said, i tried a couple dif ground locations and then grounded it into the ECM, and yes there are only 2 wires..... the tutorial that EFI has put together they only show u the dsp5 wire connection then later state they used a ground location under the dash.

What was it?? Do you still have your ground wire grounded somewhere other than the ecm itself? I may need to ground mine to the truck as I had trouble installing it the correct or perferred way

i needed to do a full-flash, i left mine grounded to the ECM as i tried that last lol but the EFI tutorial said they grounded it under the steering column.

the 2 wires that go to the ecm are a signal and a ground. You can ground one wherever or in the ecm and the other is the signal. You can swap the wires (doesnt matter which one is ground or signal).

Best bet is to ground at ecm pin.

Also, the instructions in the efi manual say to use ecm, there is a write up someone did in the tutorial (that states this is not from efi live) for reference only. I think the directions are pretty clear, especially the pic Dustin posted.

Also the "write up" for the older trucks is misunderstanding too, but it gives a good idea.

In the end, get both pins in either holes on the ecm plug as noted and all should work, dont waste time trying to use a chassis ground.
