Well, last night limped my truck hard for the first time. Happened after I ripped by a ford that was taunting me the whole drive home. He had some power in that thing too. I like how they give up quickly when they can't stay with you at the start of it. Passed him pretty fast no prob, hit 100, then slowed to 45 to make the two corners. When I rounded the second corner I was at 35. Rolled into it moderatly and "bang", truck shifted hard, rpm went to 3000, and the Check engine light came on.:( Tried to shift it manually and nothing. I new I was now in the dredded "limp mode". Pulled over after a few miles of doing 55. Hooked up my V2 cleared the codes: P0777, P0700 and P0401, I think. Started up and drove fine. Wheeew.:D Guess I need that tranny sooner than I thought to support my new sports car.:cool2:

well it looks like your yota is pretty set up so....

Yeah I know right, but the parts/mods list still never ends for it/everything else. And then there's the other three other Toyota's I have, and the five motor bikes, the drift car, and the tools for in the shop, and the girlfriend (notice shes lower on the list:)), oh, and of course the house, etc, etc. :D

that is exactly what happened to me when I limped my tranny. I limped it on a Predator 90hp tune while passing a semi. Got my SCIII shortly after, but when I saw the clutches that they took out, there was only one that was slightly scored. I could have easily backed it down to the 65hp tune and ran it for another year or two without any issues.

So it is up to you, looking at your other mods, you have just been waiting for this, knowing it would come...

More like putting it off because the tranny is like brand new (hehe) with only 22,000 miles on it from the factory.:D The diesel power is addictive and potentially easy to acheive with these beast's.:D:D:D

What axles are under the yota to handle the ls1 and 40's?

I have the 30 spline throughout, chromoly super axles. The housings been highly modified by me and the brakes, knuckles, and steering components have been upsized and beefed dramatically to various types to handle the added stress too. The only thing I have broken on them so far is the front ring gear when I pulled a wheelie, yes wheelie, at the top of a hill climb at Naches and came down under power, still climbing and at teh top, when she landed and "boom", retired that part. I had a huge crowd watching too. Cleaned about 25 teeth right off the ring gear. I originally thought it was a birfield too and tore it apart there on the traill to find both sides are fine.:( The new ring and pinion set was Precision gear, which was then heat treated and chrio froze for added strength.:D (I always upgrade when something breaks)

Geeeze, thats asking a lot out of yota's, even built! I had the same thing happen to me in my stock axle'd turbo diesel samurai w/31's on a creek bank...front end comes up, slams back down with foot still buried, POP, no front wheel drive, slides back down hill. :D Also took the knuckles apart thinking the birfield rings somehow let go only to find the carrier had cracked in 4 places and shattered the spiders. People don't give birf's enough credit

i know is a tough choice, but you have 2 options. 1: do it and never look back, never worry about it. or 2: back down the power, always worry you'll limpo at the worst moment, drive less hard on the highway to avoid the problem.

i did option 2 for a good 8 months while saving the coin, but havent looked back since. i never backed down the power to much either, just kept it sane on the 5th gear clutchs:D
